  • Reports to Managing Director, Client Services
  • Objective: This position is responsible for providing litigation, administrative, and legal support to NFC’s attorneys. NFC expects that this position will be held by a highly motivated individual who excels in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment that values top-quality work and positive contributions to the workplace.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Organize and coordinate document productions (Bates Stamping, Redaction, etc.)
  • Prepare Indexes of produced documents (Plaintiff, Defendant, Third-Party)
  • Prepare and update Chronologies of Events (maintained as documents are produced)
  • Prepare and maintain Privilege Logs (including index of documents withheld)
  • Prepare documents needed for depositions, witness interviews, etc.
  • Review and gather relevant documents for Motions and other Court submissions
  • Organize exhibits for Pleadings and other Court submissions
  • Research relevant information on witnesses, adversaries, arbitrators, mediators, etc.
  • Research public records
  • Digest and summarize Deposition Transcripts for use by attorneys
  • Coordinate and file Pleadings with the Court (knowing associated rules: Superior Court NJ, District Court NJ, EDNY, SDNY, Appellate, ECF, etc.)
  • Draft Interrogatories, Document Requests, Requests for Admissions, Subpoenas, etc.
  • Draft Answers to Complaint
  • Filings and updates to Serengeti or other electronic document systems maintained by clients
  • Draft letters to clients
  • Draft Settlement Agreements
  • Prepare Mediation Submissions
  • Organize and track documents received from clients and the Court (when multiple attorneys are assigned to case, difficult to track documents received)
  • Conduct computerized research (Internet, Westlaw)
  • Format documents (Handbooks, etc.)
  • Conduct E-Discovery searches and uploads
  • Format TOC/TOA
  • Proofread and edit documents for grammar, content and redactions
  • Draft handbooks from NFC template policies for review by Attorney
  • Create or edit PowerPoint presentations and training classes
  • Create or edit handouts for training classes
  • Review client documents for line by line comparison of plan versions.
  • Administrative support as needed
  • Trial Preparation (as needed):
    • Organize and index Trial exhibits and other supporting documents (including digital copies, court copies, witness copies, etc.)
    • Organize witness binders for Trial
    • Coordinate witness review of relevant documents being used at trial before attorneys meet with them
    • Prepare and organize trial exchanges (set-up documents, proofread submissions, pull relevant information from documents previously submitted, etc.)
    • Coordinate trial set-up (projector, computers, all documents needed, easel, etc.)
    • Organize logistics (transport set-up to courthouse, make sure connections are working, etc.)
    • Research/evaluate prospective jurors (as allowed IN the courtroom during jury selection
    • Coordinate transportation (if necessary) for witnesses
  • Skills Required
  • At least 5 years of Paralegal experience
  • Strong understanding of law firm procedures and requirements
  • Strong understanding of relevant court rules
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and plan
  • Highly organized
  • Strong research skills (including Westlaw, Practical Law, etc.)
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Unplanned activities – other duties as assigned by direct supervisor
