2015 GRANT ANNOUNCEMENTIssue Date: November 2, 2014The New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) was formed in 1981 to promote the retention and advancement of women in the legal profession. NJWLA has grown from a handful of members to more than 1,000 members. NJWLA advocates for the appointment of female judicial candidates and screens and endorses female judicial candidates. NJWLA holds numerous educational and networking events throughout the year for its members. Each spring the WILL Platinum Gala honors women from the private, public and judicial sectors of the profession who work to advance women in the legal profession. Further information about NJWLA can be found on our website at www.njwla.org NJWLA is currently accepting Grant Applications for programs that research, develop, and/or implement solutions, strategies and initiatives to: 1) support and promote women lawyers to the highest levels of law firm, government, academic, community and corporate positions and the judiciary; 2) engage in statewide and/or nationwide efforts designed to retain women in the legal profession, including through providing education; 3) remove barriers to women’s entry and advancement in the legal profession; 4) develop and promote women leaders, role models and mentors in the legal profession; 5) educate the legal profession and general public about gender equity concerns and issues related to the legal profession; 6) provide a voice for women, including in shaping legislation of importance to women; and 7) encourage women to attend law school. The total amount of Grant availability will be $25,000. There is no dollar limit on the amount an organization may apply for; however, NJWLA anticipates that it will award multiple grants in 2015 from this amount. GUIDELINES Qualifications: Restrictions: * Salaries, if requested, must be for personnel directly related to this program only and not general work of applicant. These salaries must also be in line with nonprofit salaries and should not include a component for fringe benefits. Agreement and Grant Period: Payments and Reporting: Confirmation of Receipt of Applications: NJWLA will send email notification to the Contact Person indicated on the Grant Application confirming receipt of an application. If your application contains very minor compliance deficiencies, you may be notified and asked to correct the deficiencies in a prescribed timeframe. About New Jersey Women Lawyers Association Our mission is to retain women in the legal profession through education and activism, to promote our members to the highest levels of law firm, government, academic, community and corporate positions and to endorse qualified female attorneys for appointments to the state and federal judiciary. NJWLA will foster leadership among its members by promoting professional activities, mentoring, educational programs and networking functions. NJWLA will create task forces to study and advise our membership on gender equity challenges and other issues unique to women in the profession, including “glass ceiling,” “maternal wall,” “daughter track”, pregnancy, caregiver discrimination, and sexual harassment as well as on additional racial and ethnic barriers that women of color in the legal profession face. NJWLA will be the voice on all issues of importance to women engaged in the practice of law in the state of New Jersey. |
