The members of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) extend their sincere congratulations to Judge Karen M. Williams on her confirmation as a United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey. Judge Williams is a supporter of NJWLA, attending our Galas and graciously giving of her time in participating in our Judicial Panels.
As once aptly restated by Judge Williams, “luck is when an opportunity comes along, and you’re prepared for it.” Judge Williams’ distinguished judicial career began in 1992 after graduation from the Temple University Beasley School of Law. After nearly two decades of private practice, Judge Williams became a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court in the District of New Jersey in 2009, and has since served in that role. Judge Williams also currently serves as an adjunct professor at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Judge Williams has been recognized for her thoughtful and intelligent legal mind. U.S. Senator Cory Booker commented on Judge Williams’ confirmation, recognizing her “long and distinguished legal career defending the rights of workers” and her “deep understanding of the issues facing the people of New Jersey.” Judge Williams’ confirmation is historic as she will be the first African-American District Judge confirmed by the Senate to sit in the federal courthouse in Camden.
The NJWLA is thrilled to congratulate Judge Williams on reaching this next step in her extraordinary legal career.
