NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Two (2)
DUTIES: Under direction of the Attorney General, First Assistant Attorney General, Senior Counsel to the Attorney General, or other members of the Attorney General’s Executive Leadership Team, serves as a Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General. The Counsel will perform work of a complex nature concerning the development and implementation of Department policies and priorities; participate in the oversight of affirmative civil investigations and litigation, which may include among other subject matter areas civil rights, consumer protection, environmental enforcement and environmental justice, worker protection, securities fraud, false claims, professional board prosecutions, and data privacy and cybersecurity; participate in the oversight of the Division on Civil Rights, the Division of Consumer Affairs, the Division of Law, and/or the Office of the New Jersey Coordinator for Addiction Responses and Enforcement Strategies; act as a liaison with Department Divisions and State agencies on priority operational, policy, and legal issues; represent the Attorney General or other members of the Executive Leadership Team on various working groups and at events; work directly with the Attorney General’s Executive Leadership Team on Department projects and initiatives; and perform other related work as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice law in the State of New
Jersey is required.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory
capacity.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
PREFERNCE: Preference will be given to candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills, including brief writing in complex and nuanced areas of the law as well as communication with lay audiences; demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders; noted ability to effectively time manage a large volume of tasks and to complete tasks in an expedited manner; experience with civil and/or criminal governmental investigations and litigation; and experience analyzing questions of public policy and developing public policy initiatives.
