Deputy Attorney General 1 (Section Chief – Consumer Affairs Counseling Section, Newark)

An opportunity currently exists in the unclassified service within the Department of Law & Public Safety, Division of Law, for applicants who meet the job requirements specified below:

TITLE: Deputy Attorney General 1
(Section Chief – Consumer Affairs Counseling Section)
SALARY: $91,735.50 to $128,428.42
LOCATION: Division of Law
Community Affairs Counseling Section
124 Halsey Street, 5th Floor, Newark, NJ

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One (1)

DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Assistant Attorney General in Charge of the Consumer Affairs Counseling Section, provides legal counsel and representation to professional and occupational licensing boards and committees and to the Division of Consumer Affairs; plans and manages the supervision and operations of the section; assigns matters and supervises all Deputy Attorneys General in the section; evaluates the performance of assigned Deputy Attorneys General; conducts case file reviews; other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney at Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience in having provided both written and oral advice to multi-member decision-making bodies on regulatory issues, investigations and administrative enforcement actions, as well as the Open Public Meeting Act and the Open Public Records Act.
