An Introduction to Representing Unaccompanied Children in Immigration Matters – A training by Kids in Need of Defense (KIND)

This training will provide an overview of the basics of removal proceedings for children and an introduction to appearing in Immigration court. This is a key general training for every pro bono attorney interested in representing an unaccompanied child in the current political and legal climate, including legal representation at the Newark Immigration court, Newark Asylum Office, and NJ family courts. KIND staff will provide a brief primer on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and Asylum law, as well as tips and best practices for working with children in the legal context.

This program is approved for newly-admitted and experienced attorneys.

CA: This program has been approved for 2.0 California General CLE credit.

NJ: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 2.4 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 0.0 qualify as hours of credit for ethics/professionalism and 0.0 qualify as hours of credit toward certification in civil trial law, criminal trial law, workers compensation law, municipal court law, and/or matrimonial law.

NY: This program is approved for 1.5 New York credit in the Areas of Professional Practice
