NJWLA’s In House Committee presents
It’s a Jungle Gym Scramble Out There!
Making Smart Career MovesApproximately 25 women attended a panel discussion surrounding career moves for in house attorneys. The distinguished panelists included Hope Blackburn, General Counsel, Jersey City Public Schools, Beth Zelnick Kaufman, VP, Legal Affairs, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, and Mary Clare Garber, VP, Princeton Legal Search Group. Topics included tenure in the same position, managing career and personal demands, transferrable skills, and how to transition from one job or industry to another. The personal stories were engrossing and some valuable lessons were gleaned from the panelists–stay in touch with the market, opportunity may come in unexpected places and you may need a job but not that job! The topics were very timely and the attendees included women from government as well as public and private companies.
Based on the topics discussed and feedback we received, the In-House committee intends to hold another event in the fall – and possibly continuing the career transition theme to become part of a series.

NJWLA’s Judicial Outreach Committee
presents its
Annual Judicial Panel! On Thursday, over 50 people attended the 2017 Judicial Panel at the Federal Courthouse in Newark. NJWLA was fortunate enough to hear from the Honorable Madeline Cox Arleo, the Honorable Leda Dunn Wettre, the Honorable Stacey L. Meisel and the Honorable Cathy L. Waldor. The conversation was informal and engaging with an opportunity to hear the judges’ insights and advice on trial preparation, integrity in the profession, seeking mentors, asking for help when it’s needed and work/life balance.Sincere thanks to the Judicial Outreach Committee and to Loly Tor, for moderating the engaging panel discussion and to our very generous sponsor, K&L Gates LLP, for its support of NJWLA and its mission.
