Entry Level Junior Associate Attorney – Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., Jamaica NY

A leading Hispanic Law Firm in the New York Metropolitan Area is seeking a highly motivated Junior Associate Attorney admitted in New York for its Family Practice focused on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) for its Jamaica, NY office.

Candidate must be admitted to practice, and newly admitted attorneys will be considered. Experience may also include having worked in a law clinic in law school, internship/clerkship with judges, internships, or externships.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Court appearances (status conferences and hearings)
  • Draft legal documents including petitions, waivers, motions and appeals
  • Review legal documents drafted by legal assistants and paralegals
  • Independently handle caseloads
  • Advise clients on legal matters

Candidate must possess the following skills:

· Fluency in Spanish a plus and a desire to genuinely assist clients.

· Must be able to prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs as needed.

· Must be able to appear in various courts, both in person and virtually.

· Must be able to think strategically and handle large volume of cases.

· Must be a team player, reliable, and demonstrate ability to work directly with clients.

· Must have good writing and communication skills, ability to prioritize and work under a tight schedule, ability to multi-task, in depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles, and the ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.

· Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams/Zoom software.

· Admission to the New Jersey Bar, Connecticut Bar, Federal District Courts, or Bankruptcy Court a plus.

· Writing sample of a motion, brief, or similar legal document, written solely by the candidate, with any necessary redactions; writing sample can be a document prepared in law school if necessary

· Letters of recommendation are not necessary but will be considered
