Issue Date: March 31, 2014
The New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) was formed in 1981 to promote the retention and advancement of women in the legal profession. During that time, NJWLA has grown from a handful of members to more than 1,000 members. NJWLA holds numerous educational and networking events throughout the year for its members. NJWLA also advocates for the appointment of female judicial candidates and screens and endorses female judicial candidates. Each spring the NJWLA holds it WILL Platinum Gala, which honors women from the private, public and judicial sectors of the profession who work to advance women in the legal profession.
NJWLA has established a stipend program to benefit students who are pursuing juris doctorate degrees and who will be participating in an unpaid summer or post-graduate internship, research experience, or pro bono employment. In 2014, NJWLA intends to award stipends of $2,800 each to at least one student from each of New Jersey’s law schools: Rutgers University Law School – Camden; Rutgers University Law School – Newark; and Seton Hall University Law School.
